At it's heart, Bespoke tailoring is a completely unique and custom tailoring experience whereby one tailor and/or tailor shop produces a unique hand-made garment for one individual client. The process is marked by the length and depth of hand-taken measurements, multiple fittings whereby a garment is constructed and sewn predominantly by hand with minimal machine stitching where necessary. Within four-six weeks of the initial fitting, a deconstructed garment sometimes referred to as a "shell" or "skeleton" is produced at 50% completion. This garment arrives exposed in canvas and fabric allowing for a "toile" fitting in which the garment is physically chalked by the master clothier to ensure the best fit possible. This fitting also provides the client the opportunity to try on the garment before it is finished to have a firm sense of the feel and look of the garment and make any small adjustments if desired. Roughly four weeks later, the client returns for the third and final fitting at which time the garment is finished and ready to be worn and enjoyed.
Bespoke garments require the best quality fabrics and canvas, chosen by season, weight, and composition after a thorough consultation. A Bespoke garment is always made with a pure horse-hair canvas from a recognized European stallion (most often Lipizzaner or British Quarter horse) which serves as the main internal component of the Bespoken jacket. Each Bespoke garment requires a unique canvas that most perfectly compliments it, also chosen based on season and durability. Every detail from fabric, stitching, buttonholes, buttons, lining, thread, and felt are chosen with the client in a comprehensive initial fitting. No details are left to chance.
Bespoke garments require no try-on garment and have no requirement to adhere to any generic design styles seen on a rack. They may be designed for business, or not, depending on the client's desire. Bespoke garments are available only in full canvas construction as the concept of fusing and half-canvas are not appropriate these hand-made garments. They bear the mark of experience of a personal clothier and cutter intimately familiar with fabric, canvas, materials, and measurement. All measurements are taken by hand in person and a full consultation with a master clothier is always required.
Having a Bespoke made garment made for yourself reflects taste, confidence, and dedication. It places you in an elite category that distinguishes you from the masses. If you're ready to make the commitment to consider Bespoke, House of Hawkes is here to welcome you to the Bespoke world.
